Soya chunks 65/ Vegetable 65

The theories to tell the origin on this dish are umpteen. If you read about it , you would like to believe each one until you move to the next. Nevertheless, I did not care too much to dig in as whatever the reason, the name and the dish both are simply awesome. The recipes for this like the theory has many adaptations so much so that when I picked the dish for bloghop from Priya’s kitchen, I found 3 different recipes. Well, I opted for the recipe that I felt came close to what I have been eating since childhood.

Talking about Priya, there are few food related websites that come close to being the next Epicurous. Priya’s easy and tasty recipes falls in that list. Her enthusiasm and passion for food is amazing. Her zeal to try a new dish is fresh as it was years ago when she started blogging. Her appetite to try variety and also make it for her family is worth appreciating. I really enjoy her blog posts and often hit her blog when I am looking for some new dish.

I tried her hyderabadi chicken 65, converted to veg 65. There is another variety of chicken 65 also if wish to try. I made some changes to suit my palette. Most of the ingredients were hers , I added soya sauce as that is how I have known vegetable. The outcome was lipsmacking
Ingredients
1 cup Soya chunks
1 tspn ginger-garlic paste
1 spring onion thinly sliced
2 tbsp corn flour
spring onion greens roughly chopped
1 tspn red chilli powder 
salt to taste
a sprig of curry leaves
1/2 cup curd
1 tspn of pepper powder
1/4 tspn garam masala(optional- I did not add)
Oil for frying
Method
1) Boil the soya chunks in boiling water for 15-20 min.
2) Run them under tap water. Squeeze the excess water from the chunks.
4) Mix the chunks with ginger garlic paste, salt,curd, cornflour,garam masala,red chilli powder. Let it marinate for 15-20 min
5)Heat oil in a wok/ kadai. Add the soya chunks one at a time. Fry them until they are crispy and golden brown in color
6)Drain the soya chunks on a paper towel
7)In another pan, heat 1 tspn oil. Add the curry leaves.
8) Add the onion slices, fried soya chunks and mix well.
9)Add soya sauce. Add green chillies if you like spicy meals at this stage
10) Stir for 2 min.
11) Serve garnished with chopped spring onion greens

This goes well with stir fried rice or noodles. It is good as a starter on its own.
